Remembering Katron Sosebee
Submitted by Brandon Reed, 2010
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving.
Unfortunately, we have some sad news to share with you this week.
Katron”Cannonball” Sosebee, longtime Georgia racer and 2009 inductee into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, passed away Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter in North Carolina. He was 81 years of age.
Katron was known as a fierce competitor, winning the 1963 NASCARshort track points title at the Peach Bowl, and was a force to be reckoned with on any track he visited.
As a Hall of Fame member,he was a great ambassador, attending several Hall of Fame events, including several where he would proudly wear the medal presented to him as a Hall of Famer.
Please take a moment to remember Katron, and have a look at our tribute to him this week over to GeorgiaRacingHistory.com.
Services for Katron Sosebee are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Bill Head Funeral Home in Lilburn, Georgia. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 -8:00 PM at Bill Head Funeral Home. You can read his full obituary here.
Also this week, we received word that 2009 GRHOF inductee Tommie Irvin was having some medical issues, but was recovering as of Thursday morning. Let’s all keep Mr. Tommie and his family in our thoughts and prayers over the weekend.
Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on Nov. 28 to Chase Elliott and Charles Barrett.
Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!
Brandon Reed
