Yes this was definitely a legendary run for sure...I was seated right across from Benny's pit in the front grandstand...Theentire right side sheetmetalfrom the front headlight door to the rear bumper all the way up the c-pillar was missing. The r/s door bars had to becut out of another car (Bobby Mausgrover's, I think ?) and welded in before returning to the track and winning the season championship. Luckily for Benny this happened at the start of the race and not the latter part otherwise the King would be wearing 8 crowns!

I've seen several pictures of the car after the wreck on the back straight but I have not seen this one.

I think Cale and Richard had a shot at it going into Rockingham but both suffered mechanical failures opening the door for Benny. This could not have happened to a better person but then again the drivers of that era were class all the way.I have not been posting pics for ahile but if there were more hours in the day..... I stumbled onto this one and a few others recently. I love the old GN stuff .....

LG DeWitt had a good group of guys this day for sure. I can't imagine looking at all the damage and then saying, "Let go boys, we have a lot to do." And they did it.
