The End of the Moody Mile, Syracuse, NY
Submitted by Larry Olson, 2015
Sadly, one of racing communities finest track is closing. Nestled in upstate NY at the Fairgrounds the track stood as a solid fixture and hosted ‘SuperDirtWeek’ now will becomemore a memory, a tacit reminder of what was.
Certainly the new facility should be marvelous and grand, but the grandstands at the Fairgrounds will be a hard thing to recapture. The Moody Mile will remain mute from the roar of Big Block Modifieds. Leaving in its wake a permanent dawn. Jack Johnson, Brett Hearn, Bob McCreadie and a litany of others, now just a ledger’s entry. An ancient racing program bearing the points standing of each year, while old black and white photographs of drivers and cars highlight youth and aging.
I guess that ‘change’ is inevitable and soon new legacies will appear as veteran drivers and newcomers prep for racing nights and the memories like yellowed pages lives on.
