Win Friday may lead to more opportunities to race?

Bodine to return to track tonightBy TOM KREAGER Staff Writer July 18, 2008Post a CommentRecommend Print this page E-mail this articleShare this article: Del.icio.us Facebook Digg Reddit Newsvine Whats this?Geoff Bodine never wanted Nashville to lose its Winston Cup races.Bodine winner of the last Cup race held here July 14, 1984 had finally figured out how to race competitively on the five-eighths-mile track at Music City Motorplex.”I really felt bad when they got rid of that track,” said Bodine, who made six Cup starts in Nashville with two top-five finishes. “That track and the track at (North) Wilkesboro were two that I had really figured out.”And they took both off the schedule.”Bodine will be back at the Motorplex tonight as one of 11 drivers participating in the 30-lap Old School race that kicks off the track’s celebration of 50 years of paved racing. An autograph session is scheduled for 7. The race starts at 8:45.Of the 11, Bodine is the lone driver to win a Cup race at Nashville. The participants will use cars donated by drivers in the Motorplex’s Sportsman division. The track insurance will pay for any damage to the cars, General Manager Ron Jennett said.Sportsman drivers also will receive four new tires after the race for donating their cars.”We’ll try and put on a good show,” said Bodine, who will drive Jeff Belt’s No. 02 car. “Not knowing anything about the cars will be an adjustment.”We appreciate the local drivers giving up their cars. We try to respect their cars because of that fact.”Bodine still has the guitar he won from the Pepsi 420 in 1984. He recently had it restrung after his kids damaged it.”It’s just a plain Jane guitar,” Bodine said. “It’s not painted up like some of the guitars they hand out now (at Nashville Superspeedway).”A Copley guitar will be awarded to the winner tonight. A guitar will be presented to the winning crew chief, who also will receive the Jake Elder Award $2,000 from former track champion Darrell Waltrip. Elder was a former crew chief of Waltrip.Bodine said he is in negotiations with Germain Racing for a Craftsman Truck ride at Talladega in October. Bodine’s younger brother Todd is one of three drivers for Germain.Reach Tom Kreager at [phone removed] or [email removed].——————————————————————————I should think Geoff’s win in the Shootout will help his chances to secure this particular ride. Maybe even something more. We can always hope! What are your thoughts on this development?Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,Nice job on the site.I am just so happy for Geoff.I can’t wait to see him racing at Dega’.If your in shape, and have the heart.Well then,”Your never too old”I believe that Geoff has proved himself over and over. Now it’s up to the car owners.Bart
Bart,Thanks for the nice comments 🙂 If you have any suggestions on making it better, just let me know!Dega’ isn’t a done deal, yet. But, hopefully we will hear of something concrete soon :-)I, too, am very happy for Geoff 🙂 If he can still drive a race car competitively, and still has the desire (yes on both counts!), than he should be given opportunities to race. At least, that’s my opinion.Jennifer
Troy,I believe Geoff can be very competive in a truck (well, anything really!) Only problem for me is, I don’t get SPEED channel. I know, I know. . . how is that possible!? Channel or no channel, if it’s a competive ride, I’ll be very happy :-)Bristol is one of my favorite tracks! I would love to see Geoff race there again, too :-)Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,Long time Geoff fan here. It was great to hear that Geoff won the Musiccity race, and I cant wait for them to post the video on the site.I had the priveldge to work with Geoff when I worked for Hoosier Racing Tires in 1994, and believe me he is very much under appreciated for the knowledge and desire he has.
Hi Mike,You’ll love watching the race!!That is a cool connection you have with Geoff!!And, I couldn’t agree more with what you said :-)Jennifer
The truck series is the best place for Geoff to still be competitive. In a Germain Toyota, I have no doubt he would be. I’ve watched him race since Chemung, and know that, even after all these years, he just doesn’t have any “quit” in him.Hope he gets another chance to show ’em.
I think Geoff can steal get the job done and he still has the desire. I hope they can work out a deal.

Make-A-Wish

I was wondering if Geoff still has his Golf Tournament for Make-A-Wish?
Mike,I don’t believe he does, but, I could be wrong. I’ll try to find out for you.Jennifer

Great article on Geoff's win at Watkin's Glen!!

http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/opinion/08/07/maumann.retro.watkins.glen.spark.gbodine/index.htmlThat was definitely one of my favorite wins!!!The man could (and still can!) run on any type of track, and win 🙂

Great news for us Geoff Bodine fans!!!

Per Rob Amos (Geoff Bodine’s Waxing Frenzy and a member here at Stock Car RacersReunion), Geoff is teaming up with his brother, Todd, and Team Owner Larry Gunselman to form a new team for the 2009 Cup season. The first race on the schedule is the Daytona 500! Also, Jeff Gilder and RacersReunion have come on board to help secure additional sponsorship for this season! If anyone wants to get on a Cup car, this will be a very inexpensive way to do it. If you or any company you know wants to sponsor the team, contact Jeff Gilder ASAP.
who is going to drive,.Geoff or Todd?
Geoff is driving baby!
Geoff and Todd will share driving duties. The guys are working feverishly to get the cars ready for Daytona. The California car is almost ready. I will post pictures as soon as possible. This is a call out to all of the Bodine Fans. We need sponsorship. As little as 500.00 will get you a sticker on the car. Contact Jeff Gilder for details. Jennifer can you run with this? Let me know.ThanksRob.
Rob, I will help spread the word. Thanks for keeping us posted!
Look at the blog for pictures of Geoff and cup car.

Great article from SCENEDAILY.com!!

Former Daytona 500 winner Geoff Bodine pumped up for season-opening raceBy Rea White – Associate Editor Tuesday, February 03,Geoff Bodine says he’s excited to be heading back to Daytona International Speedway for the season-opening Daytona 500.After all, Bodine won the race in 1986, ran out of gas on the final lap there – with a 23-second lead after a fuel-mileage gamble – in 1987 and finished third in the race in 2002. So it’s understandable that the 59-year-old might be eager to get back into action at the track. But Bodine is also caught up in the building of a new group. He’ll head to the track with the Larry Gunselman-owned Gunselman Motorsports in a car that carries no sponsorship but with a team that Bodine feels is ready for the season. He’ll share the ride with his brother, Todd Bodine, this season – the first time he can remember co-driving with one of his racing brothers.Geoff Bodine says that his team is representing the public, that it’s a group of people who might not have jobs otherwise working to build something.”Some of these race mechanics that have lost their jobs, with other teams shutting down and making their teams smaller, downsizing, so a team like Larry’s, we’re not funded with any kind of major sponsorship so his budget is low, but we’re providing a job for some of these fellows that are out of work, which is a good thing,” Bodine said in a phone interview Monday. “It looks like NASCAR doesn’t have a full field of fully sponsored race cars, so we’re going to be there, hopefully, filling that void of a full field, and we’re having fun doing it.”Bodine says that the team obviously hopes to garner sponsorship for the season, but he believes that it has to be at the track and in races before it can capture the attention of companies willing to be the primary backers of a Sprint Cup team.Bodine is also confident in the quality of people that the organization has building and working on its cars, as well as the Toyotas themselves. The group bought three that were used by Bill Davis Racing last season and three from Red Bull Racing.”I’m very excited about this opportunity,” he said. “I wish we were going there with sponsorship already on the car, but unless you’re there, it’s very hard to get a sponsor.”Bodine has 570 Cup starts in his career, with 18 wins, 100 top-five and 190 top-10 finishes. He last drove a Cup car in 2004, when he competed in five races, and has not raced in one of NASCAR’s new models. That doesn’t concern him for now, though. He thinks that his past experience in different cars, and even in the NASCAR Truck series, should enable him to adjust to the car quickly. After all, he feels that’s just what racers do.”I’ve never driven one on the race track,” he said of the new-model Cup car. “So far we haven’t even started one up and driven around the parking lot. These things kind of remind me of trucks, and I’m familiar with driving in the Truck series. They have similarities to the old Cup cars, back in the late ’80s, big boxy cars, that kind of driving technique I’m looking forward to getting in one and actually pushing the pedals down and going around the track.”It’s a challenge and a real race driver loves a challenge. I’ve driven a lot of race cars in my career and had to adapt to all those kinds of cars and different kinds of tracks, and fortunately I was able to do that, so I’m looking forward to this challenge and adapting to all the new technology and learning that and how to set them up. I haven’t forgotten how to drive. The mental aspect of driving, strategy, when to make a move and when not to make a move, I really believe I haven’t lost any reflexes, and I’ve been doing a lot of things to keep that going. I certainly think I haven’t lost the desire. I think I have all that I need to do this again, I just need a few laps on the race track to learn these cars and all this new technology that’s out there now.”Helping with that will be his younger brother, the 2006 NASCAR Truck series champion who also has competed in the Cup ranks. Although he last drove in the Cup series in 2006, Todd is up on the latest technology, Geoff Bodine says, and can aid the team in the setup of the car. So are the crew members and engineers the team has hired, men who have been working on this car for the past couple of seasons as it was developed and fine-tuned.For now, Geoff Bodine has high expectations entering the 2009 season – and is looking forward to working closely with his brother and building the organization.”Todd has really developed into a great race-car driver. He’s very smart with suspension with setups, so he’s going to be a tremendous asset to this team … ,” he said. “Hes up to date with this stuff. I’m out of date with new technology, so Todd brings that with him, plus his ability to go fast and win races, so I’m going to jump in there and fill in when he can’t be here and learn from what he does with this team and, hopefully, and maybe down the road, if the opportunities arrive, we’ll have two cars out there.”
The attitude at the race shop is incredible. Everyone working for the Love of the sport. Kind of reminded me of the 70’s and80’s. Geoff has always been one to start new ideas in nascar. Just like when he was the first driver to bring childrens charities to nascar. Make-a-wish. Geoff also was the first driver to bring a RV to stay at the track, instead of staying at hotels. Dale Earnhart used to bust geoff’s chops and sayed ,Bodine you camping again? Geoff would reply. At least I know who slept in my bed last night. The next week Dale was camping. So the RV companies have Geoff to thank for that. So tell Campers World that we are trying to get Geoffs wax in their stores.

Geoff Announces Details for Daytona 500Geoff has announced he will attempt to qualify for the 51st running of the Daytona 500 in the #64 Toyota Camrys owned by Larry Gunselman Racing, headquartered in Mooresville, NC.Sprint Cup Veteran, Doug Reichert, will serve as Crew Chief and the motors will be supplied by Joey Arrington.”Larry bought 3 race cars from Bill Davis Racing,” said Geoff on February 3rd. “We currently have just 6 crew members working with us at the shop. These are experienced mechanics who come from successful, well-respected teams and have been laid off due to the recession. Our team represents the spirit of all working Americans who are caught in the economic down-turn and are out of work through no fault of their own.””We plan to field a first class team, with a professional appearance, and hope to attract a sponsor that will help us build a bigger, well-funded team, so we can do more,” continued Geoff. “While we are waiting for a sponsor to come on board we will have Mona Vie, Geoff Bodine Waxing Frenzy and the USA Bobsled Project on the car.””I’m in the best shape I’ve been in years,” said Geoff. “Mona Vie has helped me lose weight and I feel great! I’m a young, healthy 59 year old man who feels more like 49. I’m excited and ready to take on this new challenge!”Roberta HamborgGeoff Bodine Fan Club Web Site Manager
I can say that is true. Geoff looks to be in champion shape. Working at the race shop in mooresville, other people in nascar came by and commented on how great Geoff looks. I can tell you this Geoff is in fighting shape. You can see the fire of competition in his eyes. And as a Geoff Bodine Fan, I can’t begin to tell how cool that is.Good Luck GeoffAs we say at FrenzyYou’ve Just Been Waxed!Thats what the competition sees as we pass them.

2nd duel

Anybody have an idea if the car had issues today??? Were we out there just getting our feet wet, getting ready for next week??
Testing for California . We did not have the sponsorship to run long. The team is only 1 month old. And you can’t test. So this was a least a shakedown. We need sponsors.Rob

2 sponsors for the vegas race

From Jayski.com#64 team signs two sponsors for Vegas: #64-Gunselman Motorsports has signed two companies to a one-race deal. Curtis Steel Co., of Las Vegas, has signed on to support the team’s qualifying and race efforts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. Curtis Steel provides quality carbon and alloy steels, aluminum, stainless, welding supplies and ornamental iron supplies. They have provided those services for multiple high-profile projects in Las Vegas. Also taking part in the sponsorship is Core Construction. They are also in Las Vegas with offices in Ariz, Fla, Ill and Texas, as well. One of their most recent projects of significance was the building of Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. Their forte is the building of learning institutions, hotels, resorts and government buildings. Todd Bodine is behind the wheel of the #64 Toyota this weekend as the team strives to make it’s first Sprint Cup Series race of the season. They missed out last week by one position.(Gunselman Motorsports PR)(2-27-2009)Good luck guys…make everybody proud

Two questions…..

Are “we” running the whole race Sunday????Are “we” going to Atlanta??If we arent running the whole race on Sunday, then i want the 17 car to make it 3 in a row. I like “tofu”. 🙂
I think Jeff Gilder will be there. As a guest of Geoff. I might have to fly to west coast on business.

jen think the site is great good job
geoff is a great guy. we had many laughs over a story about the late models he ran at hagerstown back in the 80’s. they where pieces of junk. lol. it’s a great story and he always remembers it when he sees me. its been a few years now since I live in Hawaii and don’t get back to races too often. but I will always remember him as a great driver. He was so good to his fans.
I was born in Elmira,NY and lived in Schuyler County for 50 years. I watched Earl Bodine win A lot of races at the old Chemung Speedrome.
I watched Geoff race againest the great Richie Evans,Bugsy Stevens, Merv Treichler.and the rest. that was real racing.
Some of my earliest racing memories are of Geoff driving such cars as Dick Armstrong’s modified, the Chrysler Late Model Kit Car, the 99 modified, and the first car I really ever did any work on which was Roy Groome’s 0x Late Model. Geoff only drove it a few times but he was very competitive every time he was in the seat. We won the award for best appearing late at Martinsville, and were leading the race when we broke a rocker arm stud with about 30 laps to go. From there I got to watch Geoff run Southside on many Friday nights and then on to South Boston on Saturdays. Geoff was always a fierce competitor on the track, but a great guy to talk to once his work was done. I would love to see some pics of those late 70’s and early 80’s rides.
Geoff…I hope you all have enjoyed the interview we conducted several months ago…and has been on racersreunion.com’s Radio Archives for a while. It was a pleasure to talk with you and I join with Jeff Gilder in welcoming you to the wider family to promote the Waxing Frenzy line.Jim

picture below is me in my younger years with the geoff bodine car
check out my page on racers reunion on the bootm of page there is a box with pictures that change there are some of geoffs modifieds there along with some other greats in the modified series and cup i saw geoff many of times threw out the northeast tearing up the asphalt on the nascar featherlite modofied tour since the early 60’s
Hey gang!Rob and Kim Amos posted some photos of Geoff and his new Cup ride. They are in the blog sections…under the title Geoff Bodine to Run Daytona 500.
I apologize if I missed this info , but does anyone know where the motors are coming from for Gunselman Racing?
Dutton,The engines will be supplied by Joey Arrington. Check the Discussion Forum for more info.Jennifer
Yes I did see that…. I can’t say that I have an opiion on that , they do the Waltrip Cars which admittedly were better at the end of the year. I hope Arrington get’s all out of those motors…. I am so amped up to see GB go again…. even if it starts out as a conservative effort. (S&P)
Also….does anyone have a video or know where it can be viewed of Geoff when he was running the exide car and Hoosier tires where he and ward burton were the only two cars on the lead lap…. was it North Wilkesboro? Anyone?
I was there when the call came to pick up the motors. And Joey was pumped. All I can say is BIIIG Power.
That is great Rob … where ca I look for updates from Daytona… here? I am so excited…. I sure hope we get to see GB make his qual laps…. TV has a knack of going to commercial when it is GB’s turn.
I want everyone to know Geoff is not only a spokesman but he is part owner of the company. Geoff believes this is the best wax made in the USA . We are tested against the best waxes in the world and beat them hands down. In the auto world, marine world ,and aircraft world. We need you fans to talk to all of the Advances, Pep Boys ,Auto Zones ,O’Reilly’s ,Car Quest ETC> This will help Geoff Race. Please Help us Help Geoff. We want to Race. You can help us. Its up to you. I want nothing more than to help Geoff get in to Victory Lane. We can not do it alone. Everyone says what can we do . This is what you can do. I just talked to Geoff he is pumped and ready to go. And I tell him everything I see on this site. And he says Thank You. Its Great to see him walking Tall.
Well GB made twnty somett hing laps today and with that kicks off the start of their season … a modest start but a start nonetheless.
I apologize … sticky keyboard.
Only had enough money for a few laps. But the season is just starting. It was a good shakedown for California.

Watch Geoff on speedchannel 6pm Go#64
Hi Rob,How did practice go?Jennifer

Geoff called me and told me they found the problem with the car. They are in a race shop in Vegas, fixing the problem. Geoff says they should have no problem qualifying, from now on.
Thanks for the update Rob. That’s real good news!
Rob, thanks for the update! Please, tell the team to hang in there 🙂

Does anybody know for sure if Geoff is still associated with the 64 car??
The 64 car has been parked till sponsorship can be found. It is very expensive to run in cup. And the team had limited funds. Which are now depleated. When a sponsor comes on board and the team can run competitively. I’m sure you could see Geoff back in the car. For now Geoff is keeping his refexes up in the ISCARS Series. I spent the weekend with Geoff at Lonesome Pine Raceway and had a blast. He really wooed the crowd. Pictures to come soon.Rob

Hey gang, Geoff will be our guest Tuesday night on “Racin’ The Way It Was” on RacersReunion (((RADIO))). He will be on live from Lake Placid.
Great, looking forward to it.
My art work to honor the driving career of Geoff Bodine to share with the club members.
