Where do you guys race?
NY, My original home… Many Strips in the 60’s. TANA (nascar) tour took us all over the state….
Lynn , Looks like you hit them all. My home track is Skyview and I race at Empire alot. Do you race with the gasser gang?
Just a heads up. A group of guys are going to put on a race and car show at the old Warrick / Butler dragstrip. Sounds like fun.

Jackson’s Dragway..later King’s, Warrick’s…. Founded by Paul Jackson (also founded TANA) ,located just north of Savannah NY in South Butler…. Knew it well !!! Our Triple Cities Gang did well there… always referred to as SAVANNAH
Devin, this is worthwhile. Keep in mind that there will be a lot of attention spent on the tracks each individual has competed…and so, participation here may be on the light side…but still, worthwhile having. I produced events at Lancaster, Empire (was first manager there) ESTA (was promoter from 1971-77 and a few more) at Lebanon Valley in 87-88 was PR director of Utica Rome from 69-77) have visited Westhamption Drags on LI, South Butler, and Skyview but not South Glens Falls or North Hudson Or Islilp Speedway Drags or Dover Dragstrip at Wingdale NY. .Oh, yes, please add in Niagara, where I attended the 1966 Nascar Nationals ! what a show ! I also attended the AHRA Nationals at NY National Speedway…where one of the worst drag accidents in history occurred when a wheelie truck went into reverse, ran over fans, hit the fence, knocked photogs off ladders… I think 10 died. Made the front page of the NY Times.
To all..we still have a lot of our car show entries with NASCAR class win stickers.!! They’re a proud possession. Didn’t a fellow named Ed Otto have something to do with TANA? I have heard Dick Waterman mention his name in the past. Dick still has his hand in stock car racing, despite selling UR..
Can we add this place? wow…now Holeshot Drags. I think this has merit because you can run it nearly anywhere…including indoor venues with big exit gates. Whee !

In 1973 Tod & I came up with “Hole-Shot Nationals” we did a race at MIR and the format worked. we set the finish line at 60’added a mphclock as wellran this as a race within a race. Fast forward talking to the RFK Stadium we ran the numbers. RFK was active Redskin and other sports natural turf stadium. The removal of turf, installing asphalt, removing asphalt, reinstalling turf made the project cost prohibitive. This can still be done in the right venue is available, could be pretty pricey.
Wow, Larry..Good thinking way back.
McCormick Place in Chicago did indoor drags…long ones…Jack Murphy Stadium did 2 eighth mile tracks at the same time accordingot he late Jack dolan..my West Coast director for DRAGBIKE! USA. Stadium Parking lots work. ESTA ran drags in the GE parking lot in Liverpool..plenty of room..but this Holeshot Drags…really has long term viability. Congrats !
Information on Ed Otto? I hear he was instrumental in Jackson’s/Kings..and TANA.
Tom
Thanks, Thomas!
