Post your cars that disappeared. They are in hiding and we are looking for them. Many hav’nt been seen in years or found their way to the crusher.(sad). If they are found, let us knowthat they are being restored or raced/shown.

Honesdale Honker. 1964 Chevy Nova.Built by Jay Howell for Jack Schaffer of Honesdale P.A. Car raced at Pocono Drag Lodge and other East Coast tracks. Only picture I found of the old days racing.Second owner was Rich Hokien of maybe the Duyrea P.A. It ran a 327 Chevy in D/Altered. Car name (Smokin Hokien). No known pictures of it racing. I bought it in 1975. Put a small block Mopar in it with auto tranny. Able to drive it up and down the street. Never got to the track. An ad showed up in the Binghamton N.Y. paperfor a 35 Chevy.Icalled and a deal for an even swap was made. Flat towed to Endicott N.Y. and returned with the 35. It looked like the 35 was being built as a drag car. The rear fenders were enlarged and the 57 Chevy rear had large brackets welded to it for traction bars. It is my current ride.3 years ago in looked up the guy I traded the Nova to. Called and he answered, what a surprise after 28 years. He did a little work on it and painted it white. He sold it to someone maybe from P.A. It had no title and was a cash deal. This is where the story ends. The car has disappeared and 30 years later, still in hiding. Here are the few pictures I have.

70 Barracuda. First car I owned out of high school. Raced at Island and Numidia. N.H.R.A K/Stock. Sold to a kid in Wilkes Barre P.A. for 200 dollars. It was worn out. There is little chance the car is still alive.

1932 Chevy 5 window, 401 Buick, 3 speed stick and 4.11 gears. I bought this car John Musto (spelling ?) from Pittston P.A. The hood still had the old yellow big metalflake paint. Rest of car in primer. It was two tone, orange and yellow. It may have been a show car, but a good chance it may have seen some street action. Pittston Bypass maybe. Some guy from Old Forge P.A. with a 40 Chevy may know some of the history. I took only one picture. Sold to someone from Lake Ariel P.A. Don’t know what ever happened to the car,it’s been 40 plus years. Dec 15, 1974 date is on the picture.

1933 Chevy coupe. Think the years is correct. Early 70’s and this car sat next to a garage in Forest City P.A. I had the 32 then and told a friend and he bought the car. Drivetrain came from a 70 Nova, 307 and manual tranny. I got one ride in this car. It was sold to someone in maybe the Tunkhannock,P.A. No one knows the were abouts of this car. It would make a great drag/show or street rod. This maybe the only picture of the car.

1935 Chevy Master 5 Window Coupe. Car in picture. The two blurry photos of the Honesdale Honkerand many more pictures got it in the 2006 flood in New Milford. We did’nt get hit as hard as just upstream, but that night we moved the cars in the driveway to higher ground. 90 Caddy was my work car and I carried many of my photos with me, to show anyone that would look. Out to move car, water coming over creek bed, into yard, opened door and in came the water. Photos on floor in back, got a little wet. Years later I started to save as many as possible. Two things happened, well maybe more, but the 35 was in the garage and 17 inches of water. Just enough to get in top vent hole in tranny. This meant is was time to get the 35 on the road and the progress started. One of the next projects turned out to be the photos. It was time to share the past and get back to the future. Started finding website sites to join and landed here at DRR. This is one of the best run sites there is and the members are willing to share their photos, the stories, their time, but most of all is their friendship. It will be a pleasure to meet any and all. For years the boys and I went to the races. When Skyview opened, I had a local track. It’s an hour from home. Two years ago I went to the track by myself, the boys have other things to do, no camera in hand, I had nothing to do but watch the race. Boy has life changed, last year, with the 35 I went to shows. One that made a big difference was The Tri-Cities Dragway 50th Reunion. It renewed the search for the old cars of my past. Connecting with members of DRR, I find there is a passion for the old days. When cars were built by hand, with no limits, just that gray matter between your ears. I hope to get to the races, maybe see what the 35 will do.Looking forward to a great year 2012. P.S. The two photos of the Honesdale Honker, the blurry ones, I found the for sale ads between them, what a find and the prices. Tom.

The pictures below are from a member on www.myrideisme.com. They belonged to his dad. Pictures are taken at a track and have a date on them. This may help someone with the history of these cars,if they own them or you know the wereabouts of them. Maybe they still exist.
