David Carl Allison

February 25, 1961 - July 13, 1993

This piece was written at the request of a friend named Mike, who was and is an avid fan of Davey Allison. Back then, caught up in my own grief over the loss of Dale Earnhardt, I guess I had forgotten that others had been there for years...in that state of Limbo that a race fan is left in when his favorite is suddenly no longer there. I’ve been a fan for a longer time than most, simply because I’ve lived longer than most, and I’ve grieved my share of drivers, but perhaps I never fully understood until it was my driver who was killed. To all of Davey’s fans that are still out there, this is for you also.

To say that Davey Allison had a large fan base would be like saying that a sheepdog is a little hairy.
