The Big One

Legendtorial for October 22, 2013

I guess I entitled this Legendtorial the way I did because during the telecast of the Camping World 500 from Talladega Superspeedway Sunday, I heard this reference no less than 17 trillion times.  That was all the crew for ESPN could seem to discuss before, during and after the race.  When the bottom line was counted, there were four cars involved in accidents, two cars each in two different accidents.  While, for Talladega that may be an amazing accomplishment, I was one fan happy to see that.  NASCAR has, as I stated last week, bent over backwards so to speak, to promote the crashes, the spectacular crashes involving many cars, throughout this entire year.  While I do admit there are those drawn to the races because of spectacular crashes, I would like to think that most of us sincere race fans would rather see some close, fender to fender dueling, than to see drivers eliminated from a wreck.   Just watch the NASCAR pro-mo commercials they run. Always multicar crashes at Daytona or Talladega, most promoted by those asinine restrictor plates, but I won’t even get into that discussion here.
