Willie Short one of the instrumental players in the resurrection of Cheraw Speedway passed away early this morning. He was someone who was passionate about racing as he was a driver, crew member and most important a race fan. Willie truly love racing.
I have many memories of Willie in my younger days at the race track. Although he was not family he just might as well been as we were always at the track together. Very informative about racing and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
When the request came to clean up the old Cheraw Speedway Willie led the effort. The crew that Willie directed cleaned up the old track and in no time it was ready to have a get together there and a very successful I might add. There were cars and fan from everywhere there.
Willie my friend R.I.P. and say hello to all the GREAT drivers and fans in heaven but most important say "hello" to my buddy .....my Uncle Pete because I know the two of you are getting ready to go to Darlington just like the old days.
