Real Headlights & Tail Lights on the Big NASCAR Stockers? Oui, Monsieur - in 1976

First the NASCAR SuperTrucks sported those fake tail light and head light decals. Then came the Busch/Nationwide and Cup cars.

Before those silly, fake headlight & tail light decals, Richmond, Virginia's Junie Donlavey sported real headlights and tail lights in 1976 on his familiar #90 Truxmore Ford.

However, the venue, as well as the language, was somewhat unfamiliar.

In 1976, NASCAR hooked up with the folks at the 24 Hours of Lemans (France) to create a special class and then funded a two car effort across the pond.

Hershel McGriff was there with the Olympia Beer Charger and Dick Brooks and Dick Hutcherson co-drove the #90 Truxmore car for Donlavey.

McGriff's engine blew on the 2nd lap and the Donlavey entry finally expired in the 11th hour with transmission failure.

Here's a couple of photos of Junie's #90 sporting real headlights & tail lights, not those current silly, fake decals. All photos from Motor Trend.
