On Saturday, September 29, the Historic Speedway Group will honor the memory of racer Wendell Scott at the Occoneechee Speedway in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Before it was sold, The Nashville Network (TNN) used to air the show Inside NASCAR.
Before his death, Wendell Scott was featured on this show, being interviewed by Ned Jarrett and Steve Byrnes. Ned is at Wendell's home and garage and shows the old race cars behind the garage. Some pretty fascinating stuff here.
Wendell reveals that the car he was hurt in at Talladega was the fastest car he ever drove. He says it wasn't so fast to begin with, but Glen Wood came to him and offered for the Wood Brothers to tune the motor before Sunday's race if they had time on Saturday. Wendell didn't get back in the car until race time on Sunday and said it felt like he'd been shot out of a slingshot after the Woods worked on the car. Another example of racers helping racers.
If you've never seen this, sit back and enjoy the two segments.
