Thank you, Ray. There was not a nicer guy in racing than Doug Agee with Goody's.
I'll never forget being at a Talladega Grand Marshal's dinner in the early 80s held under a tent by the airport terminal. There was a big outdoor barbecue area and Bill France had some melt-in-your mouth ribs imported that night. The previous evening Goody's had an event under the same tent and also had ribs, though they were very chewy.
My wife, Joyce was with me at both events and she happened to be eating some ribs Saturday night by the outdoor barbecue when Doug Agee stopped by to chat. Not realizing that Doug had been our host the previous evening, Joyce commented on how much better the ribs were this evening than the previous. Class act that he was, Doug mentioned that he knew the fellow responsible for sourcing the ribs the previous night (himself) and would have a word with him.
R.I.P. Doug. You represented your company like a true professional at all times. Sadly, another business card now goes in the "Special" file.

DOUG AGEE AWARDS
Doug Agee, a pioneer of racing promotions, will present the Doug Agee Award at the Goodys Fast Pain Relief 500. The Goodys Headache Powders brand created the award to be given to a person or persons who most embodies the value and spirit of Doug Agee. The award is presented annually at Martinsville Speedway a track as deeply rooted in NASCAR as Goodys 32-year tenure in racing. This year's award will be presented during pre-race ceremonies prior to the running of the Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500. Agee brought Goodys to NASCAR and invented the fan favorite Goodys Headache of the Race promotion with MRN Radio. Agee also started what is now a lifetime relationship between Goodys and "The King" Richard Petty. Agee is scheduled to make a return to Martinsville Speedway on raceday for the presentation of the award.
two year ago i was in york,pa. and run into chuck friedman from the scene paper and set up to me to talk to doug on the phone.it was so good to hear from doug.he alway take care of me.i talk on the phone to about 10 mins to dougwhat great memory. thank tochuck for set that up.doug agee IRP.
