My fellow Schaefer Hall of Famer co-founder Philly celebrates a birthday today. I was reminded of a trip we took to Rockingham for this 40th birthday. It remains my only visit to the track.
We went in 2003. I'm not sure we recognized the significance of that day's race. Matt Kenseth wrapped up the FINAL Winston Cup Series title. Bill Elliott won his FINAL Cup race. And following that fall race, Rockingham itself was down to its final bullet in the chamber. One more Cup race was run the following spring, and that was that.
