The other night on the Racing Through History broadcast, our expert panel of goats was discussing the layout of the "temporary" "short track" at Daytona International Speedway to be used on February 18 & 19 for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, Whelen Modified, and weekly Late Models races.

I didn't realize it, but back on Memorial Day weekend (I guess in an attempt to steal some thunder from Charlotte and Indy) the Daytona Speedway folks released a little video with Brett Bodine driving the new course. Here it is:

Those drains outght to make for some interesting racing. New Smyrna has been doing the "World Series of Asphalt" for years and years. Volusia COunty has been doing it in the dirt for almost as long. I guess the folks at NASCAR figured they would put up some cones and water barriers and paint some stripes on the backstretch and try to suck some more money away from the weekly tracks and teams.

I wondered about the drains, too, Randy. That layout looks like one continuous red flag waiting to happen.

Maybe Pkl will volunteer to be "the little man" who sets the cones back upright!

Just add a baseball diamond, and it's McCormick Field in Asheville, all over again. The more things change, the more they stay the same!
