Sabotage at Daytona

Just saw an interesting article in Google News Archives where Bill Dennis revealed his car had been sabotaged by having a screwdriver stuck through a radiator hose in 1972 prior to the first of his three consecutive Daytona Permatex 300 NASCAR Late Model Sportsman wins in the Junie Donlavey Mercury #90. The Donlavey LMS ride was one of at least four cars sabotaged before the 300.

Dennis also revealed that following Friday Hassler's death in a Thursday Daytona 500 Twin Qualifier's crash, NASCAR had for the first time inspected and confiscated the helmets of several drivers.

A very insightful article:

The series had two more instances of sabotage a couple of years later - at the 1974 Dixie 500 and Talladega 500. To my knowledge, no one ever determined who did it.

Talladega 500

And in 1983, Bobby Allison publcly blamed a fan for putting sugar in his gas tank at Riverside, but privately the talk was that a Junior Johnson crew member was responsible.

Wonder who could've been behind all those events. Could it have been?
