Our Schaefer Hall of Fame is a diverse group of folks. We live in multiple states. We have some normal size white guys. We inducted "Cuba" a couple of years ago as our Hispanic representative. And I represent the short, fat guy demographic.

In 2012, we brought in 2 much needed aspects to our Hall: youth and female. Kuzzin Kari's knowledge of racing isn't very deep. But she shows up every year to our 600 Schaefer Schelebration, brings new friends just about every year, and embraces the Schaefer experience. Though she prefers to live in the "now" of racing vs. learn the history, she takes full advantage of the perks of the "now". She regularly sends me photos taken from her hot pass perspective - pit road, garage area, driver intros, etc. When she was inducted, I jokingly told her it was about durn time we added some breasts to offset all us boobs.

Today is Kari's birthday. To recognize it, I went off the ranch a bit and blogged about a race OTHER than a Petty win. Because Kari is originally from New Jersey, I chose to focus on the final GN race held at Morristown Speedway on July 15, 1955. Tim Flock won the pole AND the race. Lee Petty finished 2nd, and Bob Welborn finished 3rd in Julian Petty's Chevy.

Flock led the majority of the race - but was on the outside looking in as Junior Johnson took over and was seemingly headed for the win. But then, fate broke Flock's way with a few laps to go.

How do you pronounce "Joisey" with a Nooga/Nashville/Franklin accent?!

Today we hear about the Busch brothers being such accomplished drivers, but back in the day there were THREE of those Flock brothers winning regularly. Some amazing driving genes in that family.

Inhale a nose full of pollen on a hay fever rich day, bite into a bologna and cheese sandwich, swig from a can of RC to wet the white bread, and quickly mutter Joisey out of the corner of your mouth. Works perfectly every time.
