I'm on a ghost hunt.

I'm looking forBlack River Speedwaywhich was right over the Black River Bridge. It ran in the mid 60's.

Bobby said it's plainly visible from the air, but no such luck for me yet.

Black River Speedway remains a mystery. The track that's visible now, was a kart track, and not the original speedway.

Eric, I was referring to Billy's photo. Your photo looks like the old Cooper River Speedway near Charleston.

I thought this was Cooper River?

The one at the coordinates 3329'13.73"N,7916'36.18"W does not appear to have a dragstrip

Guys, I may be wrong BUT I watched races only yards from that spot. It may actually have been where the two large buildings are located. I seem to remember the track to be oriented more parallel to Hwy 41. Mind kinda farts every once and a while when you are 85 years old. Give me a day or too and I will conform the location with locals. If anyone is interested I can give them the location of the Hemingway track. It is almost lost forever.

I can now confirm that the track was located where the two buildings now stand.

Is this track you talking about just outside Andrews SC?

This is an aerial I found from September 1964. SC-527 is just to the right of the track.

You are correct. That is the track. Hey, where did you find that old photo. I am an aerial photo nut. Used to make my living reading them. The track was located where those two industrial buildings now stand.

USGS Earth Explorer! Great to use but the pictures are like 30000 feet up so it's kinda hard to make features out.

That does look correct. It's one of those tracks that few remember where the track actually was. Not many local residents even knew the community had a race track. All evidence always pointed to the intersection of 41 and SC 527...although no evidence remained...except the former kart track. Thanks for the photo, Eric.
