Just checking around to see if (with the apperant knoledge here) if anyone knows anything about this cars history orwhereabouts. It to me appears to be a '70 vintage Petty chassis. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Billy, nice to have first hand information. Were not all early 1970 Petty cars (I'm thinking the two Superbirds for RP & PH plus the first short track Road Runner (destroyed at Darlington) Nichels based chassis'? It's just that the dash panel, main hoop and headrest look so very similar. I've attached some Superbird interior pics of Petty and Hamilton for reference. Thanks agian for your insight.

Here the link to the interior of Hamilton Superbird. I believe pics were taken at Mich.

Let me try this again, can't get the Hamilton link to work.

If it doesn't here is the address: http://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/79930495/Getty-Images-Sport?language=en-US&location=CAN I'm just wondering if the car in the above post could possibily be the chassis that McGriff has purchased at the end of 1970. Billy do you recollect how many Superbirds were constructed. My gut tells me two. I wish that the car above was mine but I do not have any ties, just a history nut. My wife thinks I'm nuts!

Well my suspisons were correct, just picked up the latest issue of Mopar Muscle and low and behold it has the whole story of the restoration of the one and only #40 Superbird which was the chassis from the first post. It also states in the story that there were only two Superbirds built that year. Apperantly the car was identified as such by Richard, Dale and Richie. I wonder if Pete will get a chance to see his old ride? That would be a great moment to capture. Billy, do you ever get a chance to stop by Petty grounds anymore or perhaps even worked on this car?

Hello Tim and also Dave Rinn!Dave, your hunch was correct! There will be more information on this car in the near future! Both in print and a few TV shows. The excitement of finding this car and now the King and his guys at Petty's Garage completing the restoration of this car, has been amazing! Stay tuned and thanks for all the interest!Chuck West
