Almost two weeks ago, I lost Pop. Today I lost one of the best friends I ever had....my heart is broken. Porky grew up watching my Pop race the cars that his Dad (Jimmy,Sr) built. He always said he learned everything he knew about racing and handling a car from Pop. I last saw him when Pop passed away, he said that he would get his Dad's scrapbooks, time trial sheets and pics together so I could have the stats on Pop's career. True to his word...his wife (Sharon) told me earlier on the phone he had done exactly that two or three days this week. He was a controvesial driver...just as Pop was, however, they knew how to put on a show for the fans.....and they knew how to win. Rest in peace "My Friend", you will be greatly missed....and I hope you gave my Pop a great big hug for me......
I was born into racing. Raised at the same tracks or track as Jimmy and his brothers. My family raced also. The old Fayetteville Speedway. And the baddest driver around back then was Chubby Tompkins. #96 and drove for Porky's Dad. That is where Porky got his car number 48. He started driving while Chubby was still driving for his Dad. So Porky told me he took the 96 cut in half and came up with #48. Porky was a rough guy out on the track. But off the track he was a different person. When I first started racing. He helped me in so many ways. So times I didn't have gas to race. He would tell go by the shop and get what you need for the night. He gave me lots of parts. There was a lot more to Porky than the driver that most only knew. He was a kind person. Always tried to help out the new racers as much as he could.
This has been a real downer of a week for me. Losing the first hero I ever had Chubby. And losing a friend and a hero in Porky.
Keeping both the Edwards Family and the Tompkins Family in our prays.
Patsy, I am so sorry to hear of your losses. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Patsy, forgive me; I should have made that connection. I didn't know Jim (Porky), but I did see his name on your page. When I saw the death announcement, my brain didn't link the two until now. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you once again. If this is your time of trial, you seem to be passing the test with flying colors. But...it's OK to cry and it's more than OK to reach out to loving family and friends.
God bless you HonMany, many hugs,
