http://blog.syracuse.com/motorsports/2011/07/new_cayuga_county_speedway_closes_its_gates.html I used to attend this track weekly and ever since WRG bought out DIRT Motorsports things have gone downhill. This is unfortunate. A promoter allowed for the Sportsman modified class to run cheaper tires to increase car counts at his track. He had only 11 cars and when he allowed them to run American Racer tires his car count increases. WRG tells him to go back to Hoosiers, drop the Sportsmans or close the track. He decided to close the track. This is what tracks are having to deal with. They want to do anything to increase car counts but a sanctioning body like WRG (which owns World of Outlaws Late Models, DIRT Modifieds and World of Outlaw Sprint cars) will not allow them to make certain cost cutting measures for those competing. This was a support class mind you too. I have been following this drama in my old area where I used to live. Dirt modified racing is split between DIRT sanctioned and Race of Champions. This is a sad day. Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway was the flagship of DIRT and to see it in this kind of state is upsetting.
