The popular success of NASCAR's return to Rockingham Speedway is well documented, and well deserved. The story is much more about Andy Hillenberg than NASCAR, but NASCARdidallow this event to happen.............

There's another setting that will pay similar dividends, and for all the same reasons. In fact, it's just waiting, begging for the chance. I'm referring, of course, to North Wilkesboro Speedway. The various minor leagues won't do it either. Nope, the Rock proved that point. It takes the heavy-weights, NWS needs a Craftsman Truck Series event, it'd be another Rockingham feel-good-standing-room-only-type story.

A lot of healing could be accomplished by the duo of Rockingham andNorth Wilkesboro, but it won't ever happen, there's at least a million and one practical/financial reasons to brand this idea lunacy. And, there's the risk that continued old-school success would verify the validity of the traditional NASCAR fan, thus flying in the face of contemporary marketers, and there practical well-laid strategies.

However, auto racing, in all it's glory, has never made one lick of practical/financial sense.

I'm afraid I'm well aware of the entangling elements and the sad history of NWS . But, still, there's a glaring gap, dots that don't connect, in the marketer's play-book, to paraphrase would be something like...we've got to be in market XYZ, because that's the (blank) biggest TV market in America........here's the fly-in-the-oatmeal to such wisdom......if market XYZ is a major TV area, what difference does if actually make if the event that is being watched is in their backyard? They're (theoretically) watching it on TV, for gosh sakes!. Case in point: Auto Club Speedway. Maybe Auto Club's actually over-the-top, the S.Californians don't watch its racesorattend them in person.

Fans from as far away asCanada attended the recent Rockingham event. Geography and other factors notwithstanding, fans made it their mission to support the track. The old....build it and they will come philosophy in action. The heart-felt-affinity of some tracks will will circumvent (otherwise)normal factors. NWS and Rockingham both share this unique distinction.
