The popular success of NASCAR's return to Rockingham Speedway is well documented, and well deserved. The story is much more about Andy Hillenberg than NASCAR, but NASCARdidallow this event to happen.............
There's another setting that will pay similar dividends, and for all the same reasons. In fact, it's just waiting, begging for the chance. I'm referring, of course, to North Wilkesboro Speedway. The various minor leagues won't do it either. Nope, the Rock proved that point. It takes the heavy-weights, NWS needs a Craftsman Truck Series event, it'd be another Rockingham feel-good-standing-room-only-type story.
A lot of healing could be accomplished by the duo of Rockingham andNorth Wilkesboro, but it won't ever happen, there's at least a million and one practical/financial reasons to brand this idea lunacy. And, there's the risk that continued old-school success would verify the validity of the traditional NASCAR fan, thus flying in the face of contemporary marketers, and there practical well-laid strategies.
However, auto racing, in all it's glory, has never made one lick of practical/financial sense.
