I knew she took a heck of a hit on that inside wall. I was shocked when I saw how hard and high that steering wheel came up in her face. She should be thankful she is a small person. That was scary to say the least.
She's taken a couple of hard licks at Daytona this year in the NW cars. Despite the polarization Danica brings, that was a frightening crash. I'm not sure I've seen a steering column get shoved back and up like that. I'm sure its happened - and if so, I probably wouldn't want to see the results. My thought after seeing it was (1) I'm glad there was no fire as it had to have been tougher than normal to exit the car and (2) what if a larger bodied driver had been the one to hit. Could have been a bad, bad, bad night.
Still learning of course. But if he pulls a stunt like that next year in Cup, someone will flip him into Lake Lloyd!
Look at all the incar cameras that will show the interior of the car vs driver in relation to the steering wheel.
I never drove a car with the steering wheel so close, my arms were out away from mt body, I had a couple of HARD frontal hits and the joints in the steering done their job. Never did one of ,mine ever take an attitude like that. Was that from the setup it takes to compensate her body size or lack of arm length/stength? I would like to know the answer to this one--wouldnt you??
