I would think that shortening up the schedule is probably the last thing I would expect to happen, Dale Earnhardt Jr. said Friday at Dover. I can imagine a lot of crazy things happening before that would. Theres just too much money involved. Theres too much money moving around and changing hands for a half-dozen dates to be cut from the schedule. The impact on the economy in those areas per race that would be removed, the politics are too thick for anything like that to ever occur.

I do know that there isnt enough demand at the current time,So, they have a good model and I think that shortening the season would be a good thing, and would definitely sort of change some things for the better. But, I just dont think thats even a possibility, more of a daydream than anything else. It will never be a reality I dont believe.

While its unlikely that NASCAR will shorten the current schedule, generally, when the existing schedule is altered, it creates a buzz. Certainly, thats a possibility for 2013.

During the NFL season, fans can find games on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday depending on the time of the season and on a variety of networks. Unless theres a weather delay, NASCARs top tour races solely on Saturday or Sunday.

If you go back a few years you can find a race or two,and these are Sprint Cup,or Grand National if I may use the term that normally on Thursday nite and one was always run on Labor Day,wasnt that Monday??

Or how about the Fourth of July race at Daytona, wasnt that one ran on the 4TH no matter what day it fell on?

But of course you and I know that change is good, sometimes, but change has to be used in moderation. Wholesale change can and will break the bank unless----------------------------------------- You tell us your side of it Mr John Q Fan

I have expressed my opinions of the NASCAR changes which have occurred over the last 10-11 years in earlier posts. I believe that the changes which have increased driver safety are obviously a good thing. However, there have been many other changes which, in my opinion, have caused many loyal veteran fans to lose interest in the sport. I believe this is one of the causes of many empty seats in the grandstands and declining TV ratings. The sport of stock car racing has become more boring to watch, both from the grandstands and on TV. I do not profess to be a marketing expert or any kind of expert on NASCAR racing, but it ain't what it used to be. I believe the "Chase" has been a big mistake - as it isn't representative of a full season of racing. I believe a seasonal championship should represent the whole season - not just the last 10 races. There are other changes, as well and to a lesser degree, in the sport whichI havedisagreed with - such as the "top 35", the "lucky dog",the COT and NASCAR's proprietary interest in it,seemingly unequal punishments and/or fines for similar offenses. It seems to me that the current NASCAR administration has made changes with the objective being similar to what IROC racing was - for the most part, boring and possibly the reason that IROC no longer exists. Having said all of that, the bottom line is that corporate money has taken over the sport..................and now it's all about the MONEY - very sad situation compared to what it used to be - but we all know the old saying, "Money talks, BS walks".

I would be all for a smaller schedule. Scale back and make each race matter more. It used to be the reason some tracks had second dates was because races sold out. Well most races have not sold out. Saw alot of empties at Dover this weekend and Charlotte had some empty parts as well. Whenever I see sponsor banners in places where there could be people that tells the story right there.

I know I have expressed my points before and I hate sounding like a broken record so I will save it and simply say one thing to add. ITS NOT YOUR DADDY'S NASCAR ANYMORE
