Bret McCormick, the sports editor of Southport, NC's State Port Pilot, hearing faint rumors of a legendary Brunswick county, NC race track, contacted me about a year ago and wrote this article.

You don't reckon Carol Bell's Saugus folks built that grandstand, do you? Nice article and some great photos you furnished, Bobby. Thanks for sharing.

Bobby...I know now why Pop loved it...sounded like it was "Home Away from Home" with all the fighting. And he sure nuff..loved his share of that, on or off the track. This picture (of Pop) is the one William Horrell said he recognized as the Leland Tack because of the "rickety" stands.

i went to a race at this track back in the early seventies i cant remember who won but it was a good race jackie rodgers ran he had a flat tire while leading lost 4 laps in the pit stop and made up 1 lap under the green he had a very fast car that night i beleive it was a 64 ford
