When Men Were Men & Morgan Shepherd Climbed Fences Before Tony Stewart

A few years back, Humpy Wheeler and daughter, Patti used these few video clips to illustrate the days when our heroes were true working men who got their hands dirty.

If you think Helio Castroneves or Tony Stewart invented the fence climb, then you've never seen Morgan Shepherd try to climb the infield fence to get at a heckling fan.

I also didn't know that ol Shepard had another side to him.....I take that back; it seems like I heard that he was an outlaw until one day he saw the light. I heard a story before that he never met his daddy until he was 6 years old, that's when he came home from thepenitentiary.

cody - at charlotte one time dave marcis was laps down and he and morgan both spun off turn four when morgan went to lap him - he walked over to dave marcis car - dave pulled his window net down and morgan started punching him through the window - ive been around morgan plenty and he wasnt allways a ray of sunshine - but i allways thought he was funny as hell - he has mellowed with age .

dave - thanks for this - i remember going to dale sr farm riding in that old truck - he would never ask you to help him - just grab that rake and move that - then he would keep talking and next thing you knew you had helped him clean all the barn stalls - lunch was boiled ham sandwich with home grown tomato - miss those days - seemed like time just flew by - the old drivers were genuine people - i allways liked humpy wheeler - it just doesnt seem right him not being there anymore - i deer hunt some in the low country and see cale once in a while - see harry gant when i go to taylorsville - i miss all the old drivers - they had style .
