That is what I was told....so that 5 X bottle New Year's eve was some good stuff huh?
Boy do I have a story....but, I declare Mama...my stories are so FAR out there! I worry if people think I am making them up...LOL But, there is no way...I could make the stuff up.....THAT JUST IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN...MY LIFE..LOL!!
actually the x marks indicate how many times times the still has been run off - the first run is one x - if made right it is about 190 or better proof - it will burn blue if you light it and your car will run on it - the next batch wont be as strong hence the xx marking - and so on - the shine is never poured back into the still after it is run off - about four or five runs is all you can get with a good proof - after five runs a good still will down to about 60 proof - thats whats known as the bottom of the barrel - you can shake it and look at bead - the smaller the bead the higher the proof - you can set a jar in the sun for awhile and if it turns a little cloudy or a little yellow tint - they didnt use enough sugar when making it - the good stuff made right wont give you a hangover as bad as bonded whiskey will .
David ,you are someone who knows your X's Best I can remember that is what or rather how my grandfather in SC told me or what I watched him do with that nasty tasting stuff ..... Must have been good stuff because in 5 min he would be out of it when he pulled up to the market in Ware Shoals SC. Now this was in the late 40's and early 50's I remember the day he went on vacation for a few days, when my dad brought him home he quit then and there,or at least I never saw any more of those quart jars ....................memories
