Are Tim Leeming or TooMuchCountry or Richard Guido here yet?

Ok... Bobby Allison was the King for one night, anyway... at Beltsville, Maryland in a Late Model Sportsman race, but only because Ray Hendrick blew up.

Here's the clip to prove it:

At least they were covering the weekly tracks back then. Better than today. They also put an "S" on Ray's last name.

Heck, Ray used to drive in a fire suit Firestone gave him that also had an unwarranted "S" on his last name!

Maybe the paper was referring to the soon-to-be homebase for DW's Cup team DiGard.

You realize you're straddling the line of blasphemy, right? OK, I get it. King of Kings RACE. But Bobby's Beltsville win doesn't supplant Richard as The King. Let's reset the table, shall we?

Richard Petty is The King (from Craig Bontrager )

Bobby Allison is The Matador (from Ray Lamm )

And DW is still wondering how he became the Court Jester.

Of course... Dennis is a former Southern Late Model 200 winner from Wilson County Speedway!

I think we all know that Richard was "King of Daytona" - but he should have been on high alert when Benny Parsons showed up with this sponsor in 1975 and won the Daytona 500!

Fireplace screens for Benny & Mr. Dewitt worked better than motels in the sponsorship department for winning Daytona. Many a last minute qualifier at Daytona over the years was thrown a minor sponsorship bone from the local King's Inn, but it never translated into a win, as Roger Hamby can attest.

Charles, this is from Jack Walker's posting at his web site that he also posted previously here at RacersReunion showing Dennis winning in 1974! Some great names in that field that bring back wonderful memories of the terrific racing at Wilson. That's our RR member, Patsy Thompkins-Keisler's dad, Chubby Thompkins finishing 3rd behind Dennis and Elliott and Hermie Sadler's uncle, Bud Elliott of Emporia, Virginia in 2nd! Your buddy, Donnie Head started 2nd that day and my old friend, Al Grinnan started on the pole.
