We have played this scene a time or two on R/R but today at Bristol. Joey was kinda struggling after his power steering went south. There wasnt any power steering in Nascar until Bobby Allison first used it in the late 70s. I think Bobby was the first to use forward steering on a race car. Then bodine used it to some success. But the bottom line was Dale Sr. won at Bristol with no power steering in the late 80s . Point being made that the guys of yesteryear were indeed in shape like no other. I cannot remember my cars being a hand full after they were properly set up. One time I did drive another car that was said to be unsteerable at speed,it was unless you kept it in a gentle slide on the straights but the turns would make your arms burn after a few laps. Dale said it best after winning at Bristol I did it but my arms were asleep after winning with no power steering, but they said he could still raise the trophy.
I guess thats why he was truly known as "The Man"
