I kept having the thought watching this year's (2014) Cup races that the Stewart-Haas Budweiser #4 Chevy driven by Kevin Harvick sure did look familiar.

It suddenly hit me Sunday night during the Bristol race.

Before he won the NASCAR Late Model Sportsman National Championship driving his own Chevelle #12 , sponsored by Richmond, Virginia Television Station Channel 12 (WRVA/WWBT) and before he won a NASCAR Busch Series Championship in the John Jackson #99 GooGoo Clusters #99, "Terrible Tommy" Ellis of Richmond spent hundreds and thousands of laps in his own red & white #4x Chevy Chevelle in the early 70s trying in vain to catch Richmond's Ray Hendrick and Sonny Hutchins.

For those not familiar with the reputation of Richmond's "Terrible Tommy" Ellis on and off the racetrack, here's a column from July 17, 1990 in the Bangor (Maine) Daily News that paints a pretty accurate picture:

Dennis, Green was flagman when I first went to Southside. I'm sure the number of fights Tommy was involved in could fill a good sized book.

Dennis, the first couple of weeks of April 1977 started off calm for "Terrible Tommy" according to the Fredericksburg, Virginia paper, which was waiting for fireworks to break out.
