another great lil track is closing

I was planning on visiting my Sister in Merrillville,In. this spring and going to the Illiani Speedway which is close by on rt.30. My brother in law said it is NOT opening this season after 68 years of operation. It is a 1/2 mile track with a 1/4 mile track in the infield and is fast and loud .. I have visited many times over the years and always enjoyed myself. Sure hate to see these tracks closing... Hope someone steps up and buys it and keeps the tradition going...

Bill, that's too bad. Maybe a saviour will come along. Seems our favorite places keep disappearing.

There's a story in the Chicago paper about the track. The current owner/operator since 1999 cites negative comments on social media affecting attendance:

Thanks for the link to that article Dave. Social media has made it far to easy to give a business a bad revue and sometimes undeserved at that. Sure would like to see these small tracks have a turn around season and start to grow again...
