Savannah Speedway opened on March 4th, 1962. The first Limited Sportsman race at the track was won by LeeRoy Yarborough driving the CL Wells #25. He was followed by Joe Blackwelder, Floyd Powell, Rock Raines(#1), Bubba Into, Lil' Bud Moore(#9), Homer Galloway(#87), E.J.Brewer, Charlton McLeod, and Harry Pritchard.
