Thanks for all the feedback on the first set of pics and I hope ya'll enjoyed them. Here's the next installment of the Darlington racers. When the guys at Holman Moody went up to Dearborn to get that load of "scrap metal and rejected parts" back in late '58 it wasn't like most scrap piles. This one had a pretty narrow range of components. In fact, when it was all unloaded and sorted out it was parts from only one kind of car and there was enough parts to build several cars. Cotton Owens was one of the beneficiaries of the "mix up" and wound up with this brand new "salvage" Thunderbird. There was some major behind chewing at the "officially not racing" FoMoCo offices and a brand new company policy on the handling of scrap sales was quickly put into place to close those loopholes that were big enough for a 430 cubic inch Lincoln engine to fall through. Back in 1960 there was a carpenter in Elmhurst Illinois who could drive more than nails so he came down south to see if he could run with the big dogs. He brought this new Ford Starliner with him but the only thing that got "hammered" was his pride, which was part of the problem, and his bank account. He wanted to do things his way and it didn't take long for the money to dry up and he was a carpenter again. But around Christmas time that year a phone call from an ex-racer named Moody was to change all that. But that's a story for another time.
