The first race of the year was a doozie. Cars came from up state NY to Fla and way west. These guys showed up early just to get bragging rights on parking spots.

Then after the official drivers meeting they lined up for tech and photo sessions before venturing out to get in their proper positions for the pace lap.

Dignitary's were plentiful and fans were in abundance because this was the first race in a long time to be held here.

Out they go and after a pace lap they off and running. The first lap was mostly for feeling out the virgin surface because the race was only officially ok'ed after a late evening town meeting. After the first lap a little red coupe out of Va was leading followed by a Pontiac out of coastal SC. Right behind him was a Sedan out of Conway area being pushed by another sedan. This race was so intense that most spectators were having so much fun no one was keeping up with positions.

Ok now you really got to remember this date because it is APRIL FOOLS Day. Yes its not really a race but it really could have been This race was being held on the old beach course in south Daytona . And yes this is only a parade lap around the old track. Look at the photo and tell me if its not a photo from the past.

Yes it was this year but it could have been in 1957 or was it 1954. If you were a real racing buff from back in the day this photo should bring back wonderful memories of the past...

Add this to your memory--a crowd like this just for a parade lap--what would a real race on the beach draw
