Video of 1956 convertible race at Langhorne

Stock Car Racing History

Hey Jeff and Sandeep, really great videos.

Jeff this is the first time I have seen footage of the Black Widows. Clean well presented. They were fast too but Panch's Ford went well too!

But tell me, in the Black Widows pit area after the race, was Hugh Babb in there????

Good old Hugh Babb!

Stock Car Racing History

Thanks to those who have helped me in my quest. I have one more question (in 2 parts) if anyone can help me.

So far I have the following Hugh Babb Specials:

37 Ford coupe (for Al Dykes) driven by Billy Carden and Fonty Flock;

40 Ford coupe (again for Al Dykes) driven by Fonty Flock;

53 Studebaker (#33 for JP Rotton) driven by various drivers;

33a 33 or 34 Ford sedan (for??) driven by Ralph Bradford.

Now apart from the 55 Chevy (#46) driven by Billy Myers and the Black Widow Chevys, can anyone tell me of any other Hugh Babb cars and does anyone have photos.

Many thanks, guys!

Thanks Andy for that. A racing Henry J (or 2) - is not that a contradiction in terms unless you've stuffed a big hemi motor into it??

this is very interesting. A side of the sport you don't think too much about as a spectator, you just take it for granted.

Racing History Minute - May 26, 1957

Stock Car Racing History

When I think back to the days I drove round Europe in my little Citroen Deux Chevaux (all of 602cc) I shake my head in disbelief. Still I was young then!!! I drove round France, Belgium, Holland and even to Monaco - sometimes just for a weekend with that little motor sounding like an egg beater in my ears! I could still hear it after I got home and put the car in the garage!

Ahh, happy days

I see a Hugh Babb Chevy made it to 3rd place. Must have been close to the end of the fuel injected Black Widows.

Looking at the map it does seem a heck of a long way from Georgia up to Oregon even for today's drivers. Or am I looking through European eyes??

Cheers, Dennis.

Some of these I had but not with the comments written on. But the last Harold Fryer one I had not seen before.

Thanks,

Andrew
