Historic Cleveland County Fairgrounds Speedway Race Results for July 6th 2012
It was a warm but beautiful night in Shelby and a great night of racing. The night started with an interview with a HOF racing legend. The 1960 Nascar Champion Rex White was on hand to greet fans and sign autographs. Then it was Nashville Recording artist Travis Powell offering the invocation and singing the National Anthem. As Elvis, Travis performed an awesome rendition of America the Beautiful at intermission. Travis will be at the Don Gibson Theater performing as Elvis on July 20th.
After opening ceremonies it was time for the 4 car fast dash. Dennis Williams set fast time for the Good Old Days Series with a time of 17:09. It was Ryan Howard in the 4x taking the dash. Howard also won the heat race. In the 30 lap Feature it was a clean Sweep for the night as Ryan Howard sailed to the win over Williams, Jason Hamrick, Spanky Thompson and Misty Hudson rounded out the top 5.
The DRCs 12 lap feature was won by the #25H of Jason Hamilton after a hard fought battle with the #20 of Jonathan Jennings. They were followed by #66 Brandon Davis and #98 Mike Lemely.
In what may have been the Best feature race of the night we saw Jason Ledford one of the regular G.O.D.S. series drivers jump into the #14 Rear 4 and race side by side with the #95 of Adam Vandiver. Vandiver won the last two Rear 4 features and seemed he was on his way to a third but was denied by Ledford. Ledford raced past Vandiver on the bottom for the lead and never looked back. The win was very popular with the fans and they let Ledford know it as he climbed from his race car in Victory lane.
In the Fair 4s 12 lap feature we were once again on the edge of our seats as we witnessed our first car ever on the new mile track get upside down. Entering turn one several cars got together and it was the #4x of Clay Spivey ending up on his roof. With the assistance of Shelby Body Shop they got the car back on four wheels. Our track fire crew was there to assist Spivey from his battered race car. Spivey was not injured in the mishap but the car was done for the night. Taking the win was #3 Jonathan Sarratt who fought hard with the #14 of Mike Mull who finished 2nd. It was Jeffery Crawford 3rd, Jonathan Butler 4th and Richard Webb coming home 5th.
Be sure to come out next Friday night July 14th and meet Racing Legend Gray London the Man responsible for helping Dale Earnhardt get his first ever win in Nascar. He will share his stories with fans and sign autographs. Also we will have another bike race for kids ages 7-9. The winner will get a trophy and a new bike thanks to Settle Heating and Air. Its free just bring a bike and a helmet to qualify. This week they will race just one lap. Thanks to all our sponsors, fans, staff and every one that supports The Historic Cleveland County Fairgrounds Speedway.
