HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- A fire that started inside the Joe Gibbs Racing headquarters disrupted work for employees in Huntersville Tuesday afternoon.
The complex is located at 13415 Reese Boulevard West just west of Interstate 77.
Huntersville police said several people were treated on site for possible smoke inhalation, but no employees needed to be transported from the scene.
The fire apparently started in the machine shop inside the building.
The building is home to the company that serves many NASCAR drivers, including Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano.
A fire in February of 2011 caused significant damage to the engine department at the facility, according to ESPN . No one was injured in that incidient.
CONCORD, N.C. -- Former Cup champion Bill Elliott will drive a special Wal-Mart-sponsored Chevrolet in a one-race deal for the Coke Zero 400 Sprint Cup event on July 7 at Daytona, Wal-Mart officials announced Thursday.
The team of Turner Motorsports will field the entry using Hendrick Motorsports engines. The race with Elliott, the 1988 Cup champion who was voted one of NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers, is part of Wal-Mart's 50th anniversary celebration. The car will use the number 50.
Elliott, 56, will make appearances at Wal-Mart stores throughout the season. The department store also is offering fans a family deal at 17 Cup races this season that includes four tickets, four sodas, four hot dogs and one program for $99. The Coke Zero 400 is one of those events.
"This is a big deal to have Wal-Mart on a car and get more involved in the sport," Elliott said. "It helps to have a company like this take a major step forward in NASCAR."
Rand Waddoups, Wal-Mart's senior director of entertaining, said there are no immediate plans to expand the car sponsorship beyond the July race.

Mildred Marcum, matriarch and co-founder of ARCA, passed away overnight at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Mildred had just celebrated her 98th birthday on January 6, 2012.
In 1953, Mildred and husband John Marcum founded a pair of motorsports companies in their home of Toledo, Ohio: the Midwest Association for Race Cars (MARC), a sanctioning body for organizing and administrating races and licensing and insuring competitors which would evolve into the present-day Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA); and Marcum Promotions, formed to operate the grandstand side of the racing business. Mildred worked in the ARCA home office right up until her birthday on Friday.
Mildred is survived by her daughter Suzie Drager, grandsons John, Ron and Jim, and a host of great grandchildren.
