I was expecting Ruby to chime in with a "Thanks" any minute!

Ruby may be busy... I think I saw her on the TV Land network this morning in a Mayberry jail cell, having devoured a case of dynamite!

Big Parties Nothing New at Speedweeks

Stock Car Racing History

I used to feel honored when the late Bill France, Senior used to ask me not to forget his invitation to our annual Speedweeks Wrangler Party at Daytona on Thursday night following the Twin Qualifying races for the Daytona 500.

Our party began in 1981 and we were very late to the game.

Check out this story from 1957 about "Official" Speedweeks parties with extensive coverage. Guess whose photo is featured at one of the biggest affairs? Of course, it's Curtis Turner!

The same page from the Febryary 17, 1957 Daytona Beach Morning Journal has a J.C. Penney ad featuring $5.99 curtains, a Goody's Shoe ad for $1.99 Dress Shoes and a local beauty salon ad that reads, "LONG LIVE BILL FRANCE!"

Check it out.

This is a pretty cool clipping from Google News Archives:

Jay, so far as I know, that is correct. Ricky's nephew, Skeet Ulrich (real name - Brian Ray Trout - son of Ricky's sister Carolyn & stepson of DK Ulrich) has quite a few acting credits in his resume.

Ricky Rudd is on Dallas TV show Right Now - Mon. 1/28 9-11 EST

Just got a big surprise when I walked in the bedroom and saw Ricky Rudd on the television my wife was watching. Texas Motor Speedway and Ricky are woven into the Ewing family plot tonight on "DALLAS" - TNT network 9-11 EST.

Found this news coverage:

Ricky Rudd, TMS President Eddie Gossage to make appearances on season premiere of 'Dallas'

Sporting News

Two NASCAR personalities will make cameo appearances on the season premiere of TNTs Dallas tonight at 9 p.m. ET.

Former Sprint Cup driver Ricky Rudd and Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage will both appear in the latest episode of the prime-time soap opera.

Part of the episode, which has a racing plot, was shot at Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth. Gossage introduces Christopher Ewing (played by Jesse Metcalfe) to Rudd.

Gossage has just two lines in the show, but fancies himself an accomplished actor, according to the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram.

I've been acting all my life, Gossage told the Star-Telegram. The whole promoter thing is an act. Part Evel Knievel, part Muhammad Ali, part Don King. So the whole Dallas thing came quite naturally.

Gossage met executive producer Ken Topolsky has a premiere for the show last year.

"It is quite an honor to have Texas Motor Speedway be a part of such an iconic show as 'Dallas,' especially a season premiere episode," Gossage said. "From what I'm told, we also may be part of a future episode this season as well. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product."

Here's a link to a television interview done with Ricky back in his Chesapeake, Virginia hometown this past summer:
