November 5 - This day in Petty history 11/5/78 - Richard nips Dave Marcis at the finish line in the Dixie 500 at Atlanta. Most everyone thought he won the race and ended a long winless drought. However, a scoring recheck showed that Donnie Allison won the race, and Richard finished 2nd. (screw up on my part. I originally posted this a few weeks ago as an October trivia item. DOH!)

11/5/67 - Richard runs a close 2nd to Bobby Allison in the Western North Carolina 500 at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway.

11/05/96 - Richard loses his race for North Carolina Secretary of State.
