September 5 - This day in Petty history 9/5/57 - Gwyn Staley won a 100 lapper at New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse driving a Julian Petty-owned Chevrolet. Lee Petty finished 2nd in an Oldsmobile.9/5/60 - Jim Paschal finished 3rd and Richard finished 6th in the Southern 500. Lee crashed and finished 30th.9/5/66 - Richard finished 2nd and Marvin Panch finished 4th in the Southern 500.9/5/76 - Richard finished 2nd to the Silver Fox in the Southern 500.
