Joe Thurman of Rock Mount, VA drove his familiar Sportsman car to a 9th place finish in the August 18th 1963 Trenton 200 Mile M-S race. Note that Thurman had to change his number to #31 since the #3 was already taken by Rene Charland. This is a Ted Lowery photo from the Bob Lowery collection.

The #3 of Junior Johnson was always a front-runner wherever he went in 1963. This picture was taken after the 1963 Southern 500 at Darlington. This is a Jack Walker photo.

Richard Petty's 1963 Plymouth speedway car arrived at Rambi Raceway in Myrtle Beach directly from Daytona. Two days earlier on July 4th it finished 8th in the 1963 Firecracker 400. Petty did not drive the #43 speedway car at Rambi, but instead had a short track Plymouth #41 brought down from Level Cross for the SpeedoRama 200 on the 1/2 clay track. This is a Buzz Mims photo.
