From the National Ghost Track Bureau....similar to hurricanes, tornadoes, and earth-quakes, a rating system has been developed for ghost track progression...the GTP system.

Any operating race track has a GTP rating of ZERO "0"

Any former track covered/TOTALLY ELIMINATED by, but not limited to, shopping center/mall, housing development, high school football field, forest, cemetery, forest, lake, highway, etc. etc. etc. has a GTP rating of FIVE "5".

Fractional gradations are also used, for example: a race track that operated in the past year, but has no present promoter, or apparent season has a .5 GTP. Tracks that have been in a similar state of existence for five or more years, are a "1".

Curiosity question ...

Is there a really good book out there chronicling ghost oval tracks / stock car tracks around the country?

I don't mean a book that only covers the Carolinas, but a more comprehensive piece.

I see a review of a book from a few years back that addresses ghost road racing tracks:

Have you looked for Allen Brown's "History of the American Speedway"?
