Shag, Myrtle Beach, Southern 500

Back in the day, many of the racers and their families, not to mention race fans, made time for a trip to Myrtle Beach during the Labor Day time period of Darlington's annual Southern 500.

The thought occurred to me that many of the supporters of RR might not be familiar with the national dance of Myrtle Beach - The Shag.

Then another thought occurred to me... I wonder if Darlington ever extended an invitation for Bridget Fonda to visit the Southern 500 after that dance routine she made famous in the 1989 epic movie production of SHAG , celebrating life in Myrtle Beach??

I shall have to defer to experts on all things Shag and Mrytle Beach like Jack Walker and all things Darlington like Tim Leeming - "The Legend" to find the answer.

Anyhow, it's food for thought on a hot Carolinas afternoon.

And a warning... these videos are not for timid eyes such as those of the Rev. Stagger!!

A modern day rendition of that movie with that title would have a much more "senior" appearance.

Had damned shag carpet in our first two 1970s homes, replete with shag rakes and all the proper vacuum accessories. And, of course, what redneck van would be complete without shag upholstery??!!
