It was a weird day at Talladega in May 1986 for the Winston 500. Probably the curse at work.
First the track lost power for several hours race day morning.
Then, during pre-race activities, an inebriated "fan" stole the pace car that Talladega PR Director, Jim Freeman had left parked with the keys in it.
The resulting chase was worthy of the Keystone Cops and equal to any Humpy Wheeler prequel!
By the way, the Talladega motorcycle officers are actually Daytona Beach Officers. Twice a year their cycles are shipped to Talladega and they are issued Talladega Sheriff outfits and deputized!
