Hey Dennis Quaid, What ever happen to the motion picture movie on NASCAR's race driver Richard Petty that you was producing.

Last night I was watching actor Dennis Quaid in the new TV Series "VEGAS".
I was thinking that around 1992, Dennis Quaid, came on the old "Regis & Kelly Show" and told "Regis & Kelly" that he was making & producing, starring in motion picture movie on NASCAR's race driver Richard Petty.

Darned good question, Dennis.

I find many references to Quaid announcing the movie in 2002 and then in 2003, The Orlando Sentinel printed the following:

Petty Family Focus Of Upcoming Film
NASCAR - The Beat
October 20, 2003

Hollywood came to Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Sunday. Director Callie Khouri was at the track to scope out the NASCAR scene in preparation for a movie about Richard Petty and his family.

Khouri, who won an Academy Award for her screenplay for Thelma and Louise and recently made her directing debut in The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, said the Walt Disney movie will star Dennis Quaid as Petty.

There's nobody left in America that's skinny enough to play Richard. You just know the movie would have been horrible anyway. If they made it today, Michael Bay would direct and there'd be dozens of cars flying into the grandstands on fire. No matter how good CGI is, they can never make Richard's 1970 Darlington crash look as scary as it was in real life.

On the positive side, there would be a lot of old race footage that we haven't seen in decades. On the negative side, they'd hire Justin Bieber to play Kyle Petty.
