The first NASCAR Strictly Stock race was held in 1949 at the old Charlotte Speedway. Jim Roper won the race after Glenn Dunnaway was disqualified. But little known Archie Smith finished 6th in the race. He ran one more NASCAR SS/GN race - at Martinsville later that year.

I found a 15 minute pseudo-interview with Archie tonight. Its pretty interesting to hear some of his memories from so far back plus his races at Bowman-Gray, visit to Occoneechee, and a Daytona road trip with a friend. There is a bit of rambling at times - but I think it adds to the character of the video clip.
