While reading post in Tracks Gone But Not Forgotten I can across New Bremen (Ohio) Speedway by Dave Kramer where he gave the results of a USAC race there in 1970. As a matter of fact it was this very day, May 25, and it made me think of the series that Tim Leeming is doing and with the winner being on our minds lately, I thought I would share it. I don't think Tim will mind a USAC race along side his NASCAR results for today.

1. Dick Trickle

2. RogerMcCluskey

3.Jack Bowsher

4.Bruce Sparrman

5.Billy Ries

6.ButchHartman

7.Don White

8.Ed Hoffman

9.Leonard Blanchard

10.Paul Feldner

11.Whitey Gerkin

12.Earl Wagner

13.Terry Nichels

14.Bay Darnell

15.Dave Whitcomb

16.Paul Baurer

17.George Giesen

18.Bob Harkey

19.Bill Jackson

20.Jim Nussbaum

Dick Trickle won from the pole in this 100 lap event that was noted as his first USAC win. Folks from the south who read Stock Car Racing magazine back then will recognize a lot of the names in this race.

The one that jumps out at me is the is the 5th place finisher and 1970 USAC ROTY Billy Ries, not because of Stock Car Racing coverage of USAC but because of a trip he made south.

In February 1971 Billy Ries brought a Camaro to Daytona for the Grand American Citrus 250 and won.

I like it! I recognize a lot of names on that rundown though I'm not terribly familiar with the history of USAC stockers. Bring 'em on! Would love to see memories on this site of series other than NASCAR's GN/Cup and LMS/Busch. ARCA, USAC, ACT, etc. would all be fun to read and learn about.

Thanks Dennis, Wonder how many of those 100 laps...Dick led? I always wonder things like that...especially from the Pole...you know me, I like to ask questions. ~Patsy~

I don't know the answer to your question Patsy. I tried to look it up on Ultimate Racing History but it just listed the event as being 100 laps. It did list Dick as driving the #99 '69 Torino and Ries as driving a #67 '69 Camaro. That could have been the same car he won with at Daytona.

Thanks for a great post, Dennis.

11th place finisher Whitey Gerkin would die three years later, on October 9, 1973, a day after a crash that killed a pit worker at the Illana Speedway in Shererville, Indiana.
