A Historic Date - November 27th, 1895

No, that's not supposed to be 1985, or 1995.....on this date in  1895, the first Automobile Race in America was held in Chicago. It was Thanksgiving Day, when 6 cars (four gasoline powered, and the other two by electric) raced 54 miles around the suburbs of Chicago.

A driver named J. Frank Duryea won the race with a record time of 7 Hours & 53 minutes, driving his gasoline powered car.

That was the first of billions of miles of auto-racing in which we all love so much!

The Duryea was the first gasoline powered car in America. The win sure didn't hurt sales as can be seen from this photo of the busy Duryea factory the following year:
