Guess Danica (and NASCAR) need the Wizard of Oz

Funny sort of thing that the story of the Wizard of Oz begins with Dorothy in Kansas. According to all the Danica supporters, so did her climb to the top of NASCAR's ladder. But Wait! What is this I'm hearing???? If what I read, saw, and heard tonight is correct, Danica will NOT be in the All-Star Race at Charlotte tomorrow night. Seems a young man beat her out in the fan vote and she was unable to make the field any other way. So, for tomorrow night, "Go Daddy" will be "Gone Daddy". I'm sure NASCAR is fuming over this omission. Guess D.W. will have to talk about Toyotas and "June Bug" since his Babe in underwear won't be running.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Uh-oh Hey Tim,got a question for ya, who will we have to discuss with Sparkle Pony not there? You wont be mad at me if I pick on DW will ya?? just kidding -- seems as though Mr Blaney asked his crew chief a very important question at the start of the truck race, did you hear it???? What he asked was "did he have an answer as to how to outrun Kyle Busch in the trucks" I didnt hear an answer, did you???

now that's the funniest video I've seen in a while. Its obvious the entire crew was having a good time with this and really wanted to be in the race. I'm just thankful we didn't see Smoke in a mini skirt or a speedO.....lol.....

No, Johnny, I didn't hear an answer other than someone saying there was no way to do it and, it appears, they were right.

Now that was very funny, but even funnier, I think, was what I learned this morning. Josh Wise was voted in because a young man, 15 years old, from Illinois, likes Josh and used a web site to raise money to get Josh's ride funded for Talladega. That worked so well, the kid turned his attention to the Fan Vote to get Josh in the All-Star race. Way to go kid!!!!! Guess there are young men more interested in the sport of racing than in women in panties parading around for the camera. Even though that video is funny, I think having Go Daddy and their ....... slammed by a 15 year old kid and another website is too funny for words.

Gosh, I remember when fans followed NASCAR for the racing. What were we thinking?

You know, guys, what we're describing is a monumental culture shift that began somewhere along the way, and continues at full tilt. It's not just NASCAR, virtually no subject can stand alone, on its own merit, there has to be some gimmick attached, to hook, to gain attention. NASCAR, in an effort to survive, has long abandoned the meat-and-potatoes for the frill and the fluff. That's the part that's so strange to us seniors, and another reason NASCAR's appeal lessens and why Mikey does the pit-road walk.

Good logic Bobby. It does seem that way.

I do find it quite hilarious how all the Danica fans are raising the roof over the voting that got Josh Wise in the race and left Danica in the motor home lot. Hearing some of the explanations and allegations are giving me some of the best belly laughs I've had in a long time.

I agree, Tim. Because the "All Star" race is sort of lame, and in a effort to add fluff and glitz, the driver "vote-in" saga has been going on for a while. But, this time, NASCAR appears to have become a victim of its own chicanery. The 18-34 year-old techies won the day.

I guess the saying " All that glitters is not GOLD " applies here !

You're spot on, Bobby. It's not just NASCAR. I mean... who'd have ever thought that in order to cross the street or walk across a parking lot or shop in a store, the younger generation would need the assistance of staring into a smart phone screen. I don't get it.... anymore than my parents understood me buying records like "Great Balls of Fire" and "Purple People Eater" back in 1958. Ole rebel Bob Dylan... I believe... once penned a song titled "The Times They Are A Changing" - or something similar. I reckon it happens every few generations and now the one I grew up in is kinda on the outside looking in at something very different.

My grandsons have absolutely no interest in taking a ride in the car to just see the scenery like I loved to do as a kid. "That's boring" they tell me as they fiddle with their ear buds.

I remember my parents describing grocery shopping in the days before supermarkets. The changes keep coming.
