Former Car Owner Ray De Witt Passes

From 1990 - 1996, car owner Ray De Witt fielded cars for Ted Musgrave, Rich Vogler, Tim Fedewa, Jimmy Hensley, Butch Miller, Ben Hess, Glenn Allen, Jr., Johnny Chapman, and Bobby Dotter in 185 NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series races.

Mr. De Witt passed on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Visitation is this Tuesday, June 3rd in Shallotte, NC., with a funeral Wednesday, June 4th in Ocean Isle Beach.

Raymond De Witt "Ray"

SUNSET BEACH, NC - Raymond "Ray" De Witt, 63, of Sunset Beach, formerly of Michigan, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, in Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Born in Holland, Mich., on December 10, 1950, and was a son of the late William De Witt, Sr., and Martha Postma De Witt. Ray attended Zeeland Public High School, Zeeland, Mich., and after high school worked for the family business, Bil-Mar Foods, Zeeland, for many years. After leaving Bil-Mar he began an involvement with racing that led him to become a former NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series team owner. Mr. DeWitt fielded cars on the local and regional scene for many years, including an American Speed Association (ASA) operation. He teamed with former driver DK Ulrich to form RaDiUs Racing in 1992. He was also a past member of the board of directors of the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame. Ray was a member of Jennies Branch Baptist Church and will be remembered for his love of family, enjoyment of a good conversation, good food, and road trips which he always seemed to know where the best restaurants were. He was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Morrison. Survivors include his second wife Diane Seelman De Witt of Denver; his companion Brenda J. Mongold of Sunset Beach; his first wife, Patrice Kilts of Michigan; and his sons, Michael De Witt (Robin) of Grand Haven, Mich., Robert Dale Mongold (Judy) of New Castle, Del., Chris Mongold (Laurie) of Hagerstown, Md., Jon Mongold (Jody) of Brunswick, Md., Brent Seelman (Chrissy) Olivers Crossroads; daughters, Rebecca "Becki" D. Gorton (Matt) of Plainwell, Mich., Jennifer Tilley (Billy) of Maiden, Judy De Witt of Olivers Crossroads; a brother, Bill De Witt, Jr. of Deland, Mich.; a sister, Shirley DeDoes (Ron) of Collinswood, Texas; a brother-in-law, Jobe Morrison of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Chase De Witt, Raven De Witt, Scott De Witt, Michaela Gorton, Elizabeth Gorton, Mark Gorton, Isiah Tilley, Scott Swindells, Elizabeth Swindells, Ashley Mongold, Brittany Mongold, Kaylee Mongold, Austin Mongold, Alexis Bruchey, Carley Bruchey, Jacob Seelman and Danielle Seelman. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ocean Isle Beach, by the Reverend Henry Rehder and the Reverend Bill Sirginson. Funeral services in Michigan will be conducted by Yntema Funeral Home in Zeeland. Burial will take place at Rusk Church cemetery in Zeeland. Service details are incomplete at this time. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 3, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte.
