In 1957 a special series of Fords were built to go after the Nascar Crown.

Ever hear of a "F" code 57 Ford Fairlane? Well there were 312 cubic inches and had 360 plus horsepower but the real deal was the Supercharger on top of the motor. It didnt take long for Nascar to ban it along with the Chevy Fuel injection.

But the real reason for this short writing was the beginning of this certain car.

It was ordered in mid year in 1957 , FROM A FORD DEALER IN WHITEVILLE N.C. Now the story gets interesting real quick because it was ordered in a 4 door Fairlane 500.

The dealership demanded full payment up front for such an oreder which included a 3 speed on the column and yes the "F" series motor with the 360 hp setup. And only one was built.

UNFORTUNATELY THE CUSTOMER WAS INCARCERATED FOR TRANSPORTING ILLEGAL LIQUOR PRIOR TO DELIVERY. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 12 MONTHS BEFORE BEING SOLD TO A CUSTOMER SEEKING A ONE YEAR OLD SEDAN WITH A STICKSHIFT. TOTALLY UNAWARE OF THE HIGH PERFORMANCE NATURE OF THE CAR AND HE SOON COMPLAINED ABOUT THE HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE.

Now I will let you wonder and some may go hunt this buyers name up but it was a buy for a purpose and it has a tie in to early Nascar.

great find Johnny, If they had as much fun as I did in 1958 with my 57 ford they had a ball. Never hauled any shine but I sure did run the wheels off of it..ah, memories as you say. Wish I had that ole Ford back and the slim waist and dark hair, lol thanks.

Ole Bill's got his hair slicked back, jeans rolled up, leaning on that '57 Ford looking like he's ready to join Robert Mitchum for a ride down Thunder Road!

For years, the Whiteville, NC Ford dealership was "Quality Ford" goes by a different name now. Under the radar, for sure, but maybe that was the plan.
